An Engineer ’ s Perspective on the 1965 Blackout By Bruce

چکیده
Prior to the 1965 blackout in the Northeastern US the electric utility companies operated their systems with two separate real time systems. The first, which I will call the load control system, consisted of analog computers connected to measurement transducers at major tie line connections to neighboring systems as well as to generating plants and was used to control the frequency and net interchange of the power system. These systems also had analog computer components that could assign the most economic generation pattern to the generators that were operating at any one time. The original names for these two functions were Load Frequency Control (LFC) and Economic Dispatch (ED). Later the engineering community, through our professional society, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), changed the name for LFC to Automatic Generation Control, or AGC.

The Impact of Blackout on Manufacturing: Evidences from Iran’s Industrial Plants
Shortage of electric power is a serious issue for production, especially for those that rely more on electricity. In this paper, we investigate the effect of non-distributed electricity (blackout) on Iranian industry. The sources are derived from two undistributed energy data collected from 39 distribution companies and database of industrial plants. The final panel data is from industrial plan...
متن کاملBlackOut: Speeding up Recurrent Neural Network Language Models With Very Large Vocabularies
We propose BlackOut, an approximation algorithm to efficiently train massive recurrent neural network language models (RNNLMs) with million word vocabularies. BlackOut is motivated by using a discriminative loss, and we describe a weighted sampling strategy which significantly reduces computation while improving stability, sample efficiency, and rate of convergence. One way to understand BlackO...
